Lesson Offerings

For the last decade, teaching has been a constant in my life. Spending time with students of all ages as they explore their musical creativity is the most important part of music making to me. Each individual, no matter the age, gets to figure out how to problem solve creatively, make sound and take up space, discover what music they’re passionate about…and then share it with the world.

I am currently offering:

Beginner-Intermediate Piano

Beginner-Intermediate Brass

Music Theory Tutoring All Levels

RCM Exam Prep grade 1-6

Performance Anxiety Management

Music lessons for high needs learners and highly anxious learners

Rates

$35 for 30 minutes

$50 for 45 minutes

$65 for 60 minutes

Priorities

I have a few different priorities for my students, but generally they are that each individual is taken seriously as an artist (no matter their age or skill level), that life skills (like anxiety management, critical thinking, behaviour management, etc) are being enforced, and that a fear free, empowering environment is fostered. I do not believe in terrifying my students into practicing - in my studio we play a longer game. We develop an emotional attachment to the creation of art, regiment, dedication and excellence so that making music actually matters to the student. My hope is that everyone who passes through my studio leaves with the memory that music is for them, and they have access to it for their entire life with no trauma, shame

or fear attached.

Lesson Content

I have been lucky to haev received an extensive education in music throughout my life. Having achieved my grade 8 in piano, being raised in youth orchestra and community theatre, completing my Bachelor’s Degree with Honours from the University of Toronto, and being an active freelance musician and recording artist, I strive to pay all that education forward to each and every one of my students.

In lessons, we combine musical skills, technical ability, music theory, rhythmic integrity work, improvisation and harmony, songwriting, historical context, repertoire and learning music by ear.

Students are required to practice, to keep a practice journal, and to be diligent in practicing what has been assigned while also playing for fun and creativity.

Lucy has been an exceptional teacher for our son and we have been amazed at how much progress he has made with her over this past year. She is always kind and patient and encourages his love of music, while ensuring that he feels supported while he learns. She strikes a great balance between making lessons fun while strengthening his technical skills. We cannot recommend Lucy enough!

Testimonials

My kids are delighted to have Lucy as their instructor! She was very helpful in helping one of them who was struggling with an instrument in not only mastering the art but also getting a high final score in school. She tailors her style to fit each child and accepts input from them. She has a great sense of humor, she is patient and reliable.

Lucy is an excellent horn teacher, our daughter has learned so much from her. She is easy to communicate with, she has a lovely rapport with her students and has really inspired our daughter to be her best!

Hope for Students

Approaching music from an empowerment and self-responsible method has been an experiment of mine actively for the last three years. I’ve had students achieve top grades in RCM exams, lessen their anxiety enough to present recitals and perform in musical theatre, begin singing again, start learning additional instruments, and generally take to music and practicing with more gusto than they were when they started with me. It doesn’t garner the fast results as being terrified, what it does is solidify a students healthy and long lasting relationship with art.

If this sounds like what you’re looking for, please send me an email and we can chat more about how this could look for you or your child.
